A child needs a grandparent, anybody's grandparent, to grow a little more securely into an unfamiliar world.Charles and Ann MorseWilma Louise Conrad (nee Wemlinger) passed away at home in Willoughby, Ohio in the arms of her loving family on Saturday, January 11 at 2:30 pm at the age of 91.
Wilma is predeceased by her parents, William S. and Cyrilla Wemlinger of Columbus, Ohio, her loving husband of 66 years, Rubert William Conrad, Jr., ‘Conny’, her daughter Dorisanne, her grandson, Andrew William Davies and her brother, William S. Wemlinger Jr.
Wilma is lovingly remembered by her daughter Ronnalee and son-in-law, David H. Davies of Willoughby, Ohio; her son, Jerry Allen Conrad and daughter-in-law, Carol of Cambridge, Ohio. Her sisters Margaret E. Thomas of Seven Hills, Ohio and Lois Eileen Cuozzo of Wladorf, Maryland . ‘The Grandmother’ s’ life and memory is deeply cherished by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: David H. Davies, II of Kirtland, Ohio and his daughter, Kirstyn Renay of Navarre, Ohio; Peter Allen Davies and his daughter Betty Kate of Redmond, WA, Joiel D.Bauschatz and her children Paul and Ava of Willoughby, Ohio; Thomas Owen Davies, ‘Tod’ also of Willoughby, Ohio; and Caryn Anne (nee Conrad) and her husband Steve Daulton of Lithopolis, Ohio.
Dearest Wilma was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 8, 1922. Her family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she grew up and graduated from South High School. During the Second World War she worked as a Long Distance Telephone Supervisor for Ohio Bell in Columbus. After her wedding in 1944 she followed her husband ‘Conny’ to San Francisco where he was stationed as a Navy Seaman until the war ended in 1945. When discharged from the Navy they established their home in Columbus Later when ‘Conny’ was transferred to Cleveland they lived in Garfield Heights, built a home in Bedford, then moved to Highland Heights and Kirtland before spending their final years with Ronnalee and David in Willoughby. Wilma was very active in her Christian Fellowship with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints now known as the Community of Christ where she served in the priesthood office of Teacher. She spent many happy hours volunteering at the Holden Arboretum and Lake West Hospital.

Every Sunday I spray on my Beautiful perfume and I think of her. I can remember curling up on her lap as a little girl and smelling her signature scent.

While camp food can be terrifying it was always good when Grandma was in the cafeteria. I'm not sure if they used different ingredients, seasoned it better or if she just made things the way I'd always had them. Mostly though I think it was knowing she was there.
